The Year 2000

I hope that everyone began the new Millennium with a renewed spirit of fun, an excitement about the challenges that lie ahead and a determination to find joy in all that you do!

North Metro members are still reeling from our Atlanta experience – and want to thank all of you who took the time to send notes, cards and letters of congratulations!  Although we can NEVER live up to all of your very complimentary remarks and good wishes, we will try our best to do so.

The chorus is booked for the coming year with a wide range of performances, some locally and others much further afield.  We will be singing at several community events such as the Fighting Blindness Foundation Benefit as well as a couple of church services. We have the Stoneycreek Men’s Show at Hamilton Place with June’s MegaCity Men’s Chorus in March, then there is a performance in April at Regional Competition in Syracuse.

In summer of this year we are really looking forward to singing with the Renaissance Rhythm Chorus at their first annual show in Beaver Falls, Pennsylvania. Following that performance we’ve been invited to perform at the Greater Toronto Area MegaCity Chorus Charter Show at the Living Arts Centre in Mississauga.  (They have a great view of the Theatre on their WebSite!)  Ticket sales are going well and we are really excited about singing with June’s “guys.”  In preparation for this – we have been exploring the world of 8-part harmony……… a challenge in itself, but…….. Oh! that sound!  Goosebumps abound!  (Those of you who enjoyed the American Trilogy at Regional last year know what I mean!)  It may sound rather arrogant to get so excited by one’s own singing - but for me that is one of the things that is so fantastic about being a member of North Metro – we DO get excited about the technique, the nuances, the refining and exploration of our craft.  Pushing the envelope creatively is what gets our adrenaline pumping!  And speaking of pushing the envelope, North Metro follows up the MegaCity show with an appearance at the Buckeye Event – a first for us!

In terms of recordings - North Metro’s latest CD, “Anchors Aweigh”, is in the process of being cut and should be on sale at Regional in April.   We are joined on four of the tracks by the MegaCity Chorus – and we had lots of fun one evening recording those songs.  (To be honest, I think we even impressed June – considering that the two choruses had learned their parts separately and had only had an hour or two of rehearsal time together!)  We have to be careful not to impress her TOO much or it will raise her expectations of us!!!  Speaking of expectations – I think June expects me to know my music for the upcoming shows so I had better get learning!

Stay safe and sing well!

Doreen
